'Star Power' to dominate Sunday's primetime block

MANILA, Philippines – The long wait for the Megafans is almost over as multi-awarded Megastar Sharon Cuneta leads the launch of her newest show “Star Power, Sharon’s Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar” on Sunday, October 10.

The show’s concept is to empower 20 young female contestants from all over the country to maximize their own potentials, develop their talents and improve their skills.

All of them will undergo Cuneta’s thorough training.

At the end of the competition, the board of judges, composed of actor/director Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz, comedienne Mitch Valdes and singer/TV host Billy Crawford, will choose one female pop superstar.
Pop Prince Erik Santos and Asia’s Idol Christian Bautista will co-host “Star Power.”

In an interview, Santos and Bautista both shared their excitement over their first-ever hosting stint for a talent search. Both of them are products of ABS-CBN’s defunct talent search show, “Star in a Million.”

"It's like a full circle. Ngayon, kami naman 'yung nag-iintroduce ng mga bagong batch ng singers. It's a great honor and it's a privilege kasi, in a way. Alam namin 'yung pinagdadaanan nila. Alam namin kung paano sila tutulungan at susuportahan," Bautista said.

Celebrating his birthday on the show’s premiere, Santos, on the other hand, wishes "Star Power" to have high ratings on Sunday.

"My birthday wish is, siyempre, mataas na ratings ng aming show, ang 'Star Power'. Siyempre parating good health, more projects… Ay, love life pa pala. Hahahaha! I want a love na magla-last," Santos shared.

The two also revealed that they have been rigidly preparing for the show as much as the 20 female contenders do.

"For this one, nag-research ako sa hosting ng isang contest like this one. Kailangan mo kasing magkaroon ng peg bago mo gawin ang isang bagay. At least meron kang paggagayahan, meron kang model. Binalikan ko 'yung mga episodes ng isang international singing competition. Tiningnan ko rin pati 'yung hosting sa 'Star in a Million' before," Santos said.

Meanwhile, Santos and Bautista advised the young hopefuls to be strong, humble, and God-fearing enough to face the challenges in the competition.

With the hosts and contestants already geared up, “Star Power” is now ready to dominate Sunday’s Primetime block. It will be shown on ABS-CBN after “Going Bulilit.”
